Excellence in Leadership

Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska is very excited to announce that we are one of two 2013 recipients of the Women’s Fund of Omaha’s “Excellence Awards.”  The Women’s Fund officially announced the awards, and all of the 2013 grant recipients, at their 13th Annual Fall Luncheon, October 24 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.

The luncheon was emceed by Alex Hoffman, a First News anchor from KETV Newswatch 7 and special guest speaker was Betsy Myers, an internationally known leadership expert and author of “Take the Lead,” a book that explores authentic leadership.

The “Excellence Awards” recognize organizations for outstanding programs that help the Women’s Fund achieve their vision of a community where all girls and women reach their full potential. A $20,000 grant, Excellence in Service to Girls, was awarded to Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska for the leadership programs that we provide to encourage girls to use their talents and their voice to make a difference in the world.

The Women’s Center for Advancement was the other recipient of an “Excellence Award” ($25,000 – Excellence in Service to Women) for programs that move women and their families from poverty to self-sufficiency, and for the support that they give to their clients to help them develop and attain short- and long-term goals.

In total, the Women’s Fund of Omaha awarded $133,000 in funding to non-profit agencies at the luncheon for all of the work that these organizations do on behalf of Omaha-area women and girls.  Since their inception in 1990, the Women’s Fund has invested more than $1.5 million in more than 100 organizations.
