Skill 1: Goal Setting
Do you know how important it is to set goals? It’s pretty much a game changer. According to motivational blogger Sumeeta Kumar, “Research studies show a direct link between goals and enhanced performance in business. Goals help you focus and allocate your time and resources efficiently, and they can keep you motivated when you feel like giving up.” What’s even better than just stating a goal – is writing it down. It has been proven time and time again that people who set goals, write them down, and review them are way more likely to achieve them.
Okay – so what am I getting at? Well, this is a tremendously important skill to develop. In Girl Scouts, especially during cookie season, we encourage our girls to set their goals for how many boxes they will sell. Now, don’t just think of this in terms of cold hard cash – these girls and young women are looking into the future and saying, “What do I need to sell today in order to do X later?” That “X” could be anything – going on an exciting field trip, taking a trip with her troop to camp for a week, maybe even go to another country and travel with other Girl Scouts whom she’s never met. THAT’S HUGE! The cookie program gives her the opportunity to see what she’s made of – and what it means to work hard to achieve a challenging goal. It’s amazing.
I would love to hear some of your cookie selling stories – what are your selling goals? What do you want to do with your cookie proceeds? Send me pictures, videos, or an email. Let’s hear it!! Email me today!
