Early Bird Renewal FAQs

What is Early Bird?

Early Bird is the time your family or troop can get a head start on the 2018-2019 year by renewing your Girl Scout memberships and earning incentives. Early Bird runs from April 15 to June 30, 2018.

Why should I renew my membership early?

Incentives! Girls will receive a FREE Early Bird patch, and co-leaders will receive a FREE trunk organizer. Plus, our First Day Early Bird Incentive is BACK! See Question 5 below for all the First Day Incentive details.

No chasing down registrations next fall! We all know how busy fall gets with a new school year, fall sports, and getting back into the swing of things. Why not make it easier on yourself and have your Girl Scout troop all ready to go?

Access to the Volunteer Toolkit! The Volunteer Toolkit is a handy online resource that helps with meeting planning, badge requirements, and organizing the troop year. Troops can begin planning their next Girl Scout year starting July 1.

What is required to qualify for Early Bird incentives?

Girls who register or renew their membership through our online registration system before 11:59 p.m. (Mountain Time) on April 16, 2018, will receive a voucher redeemable for the new global-themed Program on Demand.

Girls who register or renew their membership through our online registration system before 11:59 p.m. (Mountain Time) on June 30, 2018, will receive a free patch.

Co-Leaders who renew the majority of their troop members through our online registration system before 11:59 p.m. (Mountain Time) on June 30, 2018, will receive a free trunk organizer. The troop must have at least two co-leaders registered in order for any co-leader to receive this incentive. Please make sure the appropriate adults are registered as your troop’s co-leaders to ensure they receive the incentive.

I need to apply for financial aid. Do I still qualify for Early Bird incentives?

Yes, to qualify for incentives, you must register or renew your membership through our online registration system by 11:59 p.m. (Mountain Time) on April 16, 2018, (for First Day Incentive) or 11:59 p.m. (Mountain Time) on June 30, 2018, (for trunk organizer and/or patch), and submit the required Financial Aid Application online by the following dates:

  • April 23, 2018, for the First Day Incentive
  • July 9, 2018, for the Early Bird Patch/Trunk Organizer

You should receive the Financial Aid Application in an email after requesting Financial Aid online. If you do not receive it within 24 hours, please check your Spam and Promotional folders or find it online.

What is the Early Bird First Day Incentive?

Early Bird starts on Sunday, April 15. For your convenience, we are extending our First Day Incentive to two days. Each girl who registers or has her membership renewed before 11:59 p.m. (Mountain Time) on April 16, 2018, will receive a voucher redeemable for the global-themed Program on Demand.

What can I use the voucher for? It may only be redeemed the global-themed Program on Demand.

How can I redeem my voucher? Bring your voucher to your nearest Juliette’s Boutique after October 1, 2018, to redeem and pick up your global-themed Program on Demand. You can also arrange pickup with your Troop Support Specialist if necessary. Vouchers expire January 31, 2019.

What if I’m part of a troop? Can my troop co-leader pick up my incentive? Troop co-leaders can redeem and pick up the global-themed Programs on Demand for their troop members only if they have all the vouchers with them at pick up. Coordinate with your co-leader to redeem vouchers at the same time.

I’m a co-leader. How do I ensure that each girl gets the global-themed Program on Demand so we can do it as a troop? We encourage all troops to renew each girl member on April 15 or 16 to make sure they receive the global-themed Program on Demand. If new girls start after April 16, don’t worry! You can order and pay for additional global-themed Programs on Demand through our online program registration site after October 1, 2018.

How will I receive my incentive(s)?

First Day Incentive vouchers will be sent to each girl’s home address by the end of April. Vouchers must be redeemed at your nearest Juliette's Boutique after October 1, 2018, and before January 31, 2019.

Early Bird patches and trunk organizers will be given to one troop co-leader for distribution starting in August. If the girl is an Individual Girl Member, the patch will be mailed to her home in August.

Membership fees for the 2018-2019 year are $25 and are sent directly to our national organization, Girl Scouts of the USA and are non-refundable. None of the fee stays in our local council.

Who pays for my daughter’s membership?

Parents are responsible for paying for their daughter’s membership. However, if the girl participated in the Cookie Program or Fall Product Program, the troop may cover the membership fee using troop proceeds. Check with your co-leader.

What happens if the council reaches its statewide Early Bird goal?

If enough people register or renew their memberships during Early Bird (5,668 girls and 3,166 adults, including Lifetime Members), we will raffle off a free troop overnight at the Girl Scout Spirit of Nebraska camp of the winner’s choice!

How does my troop qualify? Renew or register the same amount of girls you have in your troop for the current year for the 2018-19 Girl Scout year during Early Bird, April 15 – June 30, 2018.

What can the camp overnight be used for? The Spirit of Nebraska camp of your choice can be used for a troop outing and/or overnight. Must be used as a troop by May 31, 2019.

How were the goals determined? Last year, 5,556 girls and 3,104 adults registered or renewed during Early Bird, and our goal is to increase those numbers by 2%!
