We Celebrated, too.
100 Days of Service
In honor of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting, Spirit of Nebraska
sponsored 100 Days of Service. FromMay 1 through August 8, 2012, Girl
Scouts across the statemade the world a better place by participating
in girl-led service projects in their local communities. We surpassed our
goal of 100 Service Projects in 100 Days with a total of 112 total projects
completed. More than 1,100 girls participated, representing 145 troops
and nine individual girl members.
Reconnecting with Our Girl Scout Alumnae
We asked Girl Scout alumnae throughout Nebraska
to reach out to us to share their Girl Scouting
memories. Nearly one hundred women emailed,
called or wrote a letter to the council. Through their
correspodence, we discovered who we believe to
be the eldest living Girl Scout in Nebraska: Mildred
Guenther (pictured) of Beatrice, 97 years of age.
Mildred’s Girl Scout journey began in 1930 when, at
the age of 15, she joined Lincoln’s Clover Troop 2.
