Why Girl Scouts?
Girl Scouts was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low. She believed passionately that girls
should be given the same opportunities as boys to develop physically, mentally and spiritually.
Over a century later, that mission continues andwe pay tribute to all the wonderful contributions
that Juliette Gordon Lowmade and celebrate the organization that Girl Scouts has become.
Welcome to your 2013-2014 Annual ProgramBook
Who do you want to be in 2014? This year, Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska wants girls to find their voice by using the
power of media for positive change. Media is the most persuasive and pervasive force of communication in our
culture. Girls between 8-18 years old spendmore than 10 hours a day inmedia related activities. Images they see
of girls and women affect their confidence, body image, relationships, and leadership aspirations.
This year, we hope girls will examine their beliefs and gain clarity onwhat’s truly important to them.
Let’s make 2013-2014 an empowering year for girls!
