The basis for everything we do in Girl Scouting is the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). It is a model that engages girls in discovering themselves, connecting with others and taking action to make the world a better place. We call this framework, the three “keys” to leadership.
Girl Scout experiences are also, as much as possible, girl led; they encourage learning by doing (experiential learning) and are based on principles of cooperative learning. These three processes promote the GSLE and the fun and friendship that have always been integral to Girl Scouting.
Using the three “keys” to leadership, there are 15 desired outcomes that volunteers can use to gauge the benefit of the experience. Outcomes charts, organized by the three leadership “keys” and by grade level, detail the 15 outcomes. Although detailed and comprehensive, the charts are an easy-to-use reference and can be used in varying ways.
Girl Scouts of the USA has simplified and organized all of the information you need to know about the GSLE in one comprehensive publication called, “Transforming Leadership
National Program Portfolio
The National Program Portfolio
has two main parts – the National Leadership Journeys and The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting. Complemented by the Girl Scout Cookie Program, Girl Scout travel and Girl Scout Girl Awards, the National Program Portfolio is designed to help girls develop as leaders and build confidence by learning new skills. It also ensures that Girl Scouts at every level are sharing a powerful, national experience—girls together changing the world!
There are three different Leadership Journeys series – It's Your Story – Tell It!
, It's Your Planet – Love It!
and It's Your World – Change It!
. Each series has separate books and awards for each grade level and a corresponding adult guide.
The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting
is where girls (and adults) can find all of the badges for their grade level, information on bridging and Bronze/Silver/Gold Awards, Girl Scout history, tradition and much more!
