A bioblitz focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area during a short time. The goal is to get an overall count of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms living in a place.Participating in these hands-on studies is a fun and exciting way for Girl Scouts to join experts and scientists in the field, learn about biodiversity, and better understand how to protect it.
Since being created in 1996 by the National Park Service, bioblitzes have been held throughout the world. Participants have identified many species rarely found in the parks where inventories were conducted. Maybe you’ll make an unexpected discovery!
