Welcome to the Nebraska Girl Scout Councils Realignment web site. This is a historic moment for Girl Scouts across Nebraska. This site is your source for news and information relating to the realignment efforts in the state. It also serves as a link to the five legacy councils involved in the merger and also to Girl Scouts of the USA.
The realignment process in Nebraska began in April of 2007 and on May 1, 2008 the five Girl Scout Councils in Nebraska are slated to become a new, stronger and revitalized - high capacity council, Girl Scouts - Spirit of Nebraska. Our membership and communities can look forward to expanded opportunities for girls, enhanced services for adult volunteers, continued and strengthened outreach programs to underserved populations and vibrant corporate and donor partnerships to meet our collective commitment to all girls in the state.
The council corporate home will be located in west Omaha. Spirit of Nebraska will also have multiple service centers and camps throughout the new council jurisdiction. The five current councils combined have served 92 out of 93 Nebraska counties. In addition, the Omaha council, Great Plains, has served the small town of Carter Lake, Iowa. As part of the process, these areas with the exception of Dakota County in Nebraska will encompass the Spirit of Nebraska Council. The new council will serve more than 19,000 girls and 6,000 adult volunteers, but the potential is much greater.
Girls remain the focus of our transformation. We want this transition to be seamless and transparent for all of them. We encourage you to visit this web site often and give us your feedback.
Thank you for your support of Girl Scouts in Nebraska.
