Every day, Girl Scout volunteers help girls blossom into their true potential by providing experiences that allow them to pursue their interests, passions, causes and the leadership roles into which they can grow. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, girls are standing up, standing out, and standing tall!

Take a moment to recognize the volunteers who mean a lot to you. Recognize your favorite volunteer with a formal Volunteer Award Nomination or show your gratitude with our Attitude of Gratitude Patch Program, send an eCard, or with these other suggestions.

Volunteer Award Nominations

Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska cherishes our adult members and recognizes the valuable contribution they make in developing girl leaders. Girl Scout Volunteer Awards recognize those who provide exemplary service and go above and beyond the expectations of their position to make a difference for the organization and for girls.

Do you know an outstanding volunteer, family, or community partner who deserves recognition for their steadfast support of the Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska?

We’re now seeking adult recognition nominations for volunteers who go above and beyond, who exceed expectations, and whose contributions are significant, and whose performances are outstanding. These volunteers believe in our Mission, and we want to show our heartfelt appreciation for their dedication and selfless efforts.

We encourage you to submit nominations for the 2024-2025 year. Girl Scout volunteers deserve to be honored and feel valued for their work. We recognize volunteers for years of service and outstanding leadership. We also recognize families, community partners, and much more. Please submit nominations by Friday, February 28, 2025. Award recipients will be chosen in spring 2025 and celebrated in summer 2025.

Spirit of Nebraska Volunteer Awards

Years of Volunteer Service Pin

Years of Volunteer Service Pins are given to adult volunteers for their years (in 5-year increments) of service to Girl Scouts.

Friends of Camp Award

The Friends of Camp Award recognizes organizations or individuals who provide outstanding assistance and support to Girl Scout camp properties.

Spirit of Girl Scouting, Community Benefactor Award

The Community Benefactor Award recognizes organizations or individuals who are not Girl Scout members and provide outstanding assistance and support to Girl Scout programming.

Helpful Adult Award

The Helpful Adult Award recognizes volunteers who have contributed outstanding service while partnering directly with girls in a troop pathway. This could include volunteers serving in any role other than troop co-leader.

Carolyn Sloan Spirit of Nebraska Award

The Carolyn Sloan Spirit of Nebraska Award was established in 1980 by the Board of Directors of the then Guiding Star Council to honor the memory of Carolyn, who had been a revered staff member until her untimely death in 1979. Carolyn was totally committed to the council, its volunteers and girls. In 2010, we expanded the scope of the award to include the entire state and honored our first recipient with the renamed “Carolyn Sloan Spirit of Nebraska Award.” This award honors Carolyn’s spirit of love and devotion to all girls. Three nominations (two as endorsements) are required.

Girl Scouts of the USA Awards

Volunteer of Excellence Award

The Volunteer of Excellence award recognizes those volunteers who have contributed outstanding service while partnering directly with girls in any pathway to implement the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through use of the national program portfolio or who contributed outstanding service in support of the council’s mission delivery to girl and adult members.

President’s Award

The President’s Award recognizes the efforts of a Service Unit whose exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience surpassed team goals and resulted in significant, measurable impact toward reaching the council’s overall goals.

Appreciation Pin

The Appreciation Pin recognizes an individual’s exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. This service, which has had measurable impact on at least one geographic area of service, helps reach and surpass the mission-delivery goals of the area. Three nominations (two as endorsements) are required.

Honor Pin

The Honor Pin recognizes an individual’s exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, which has had measurable impact on two or more geographic areas of service, allowing the council to reach and surpass its mission-delivery goals. Three nominations (two as endorsements) are required.

Thanks Badge

The Thanks Badge honors an individual whose ongoing commitment, leadership, and service have had an exceptional, measurable impact on meeting the mission-delivery goals and priorities of the entire council or the entire Girl Scout Movement. Four nominations (three as endorsements) required.

Thanks Badge II

The Thanks Badge II honors a previous Thanks Badge award recipient who has continued to provide exemplary service in a leadership role, resulting in a measurable impact that benefits the total council or entire Girl Scout Movement. Four nominations (three as endorsements) are required.

Other Ways to Show Gratitude

Complete the Attitude of Gratitude Patch Program to earn a FREE patch!
Submit a volunteer story for our council publications or your local newspaper.
Plant a tree in their honor for a lasting sign of appreciation.
Treat them to special meal—either homemade or at their favorite restaurant.
Write sidewalk chalk notes of thanks and appreciation outside your meeting place.
Create a “Thank You Box” filled with special messages from everyone in your troop.
Gift a hand-decorated coffee mug or tumbler full of chocolate kisses!
Send them a free “thank you” eCard or coloring sheet.
A simple fist bump or high five with a “thank you” goes a long way.
