The Girl Scout membership year runs from October 1 to September 30 and must be renewed annually. Annual membership dues are $65 for girl members and $30 for adult members.

When you renew, please take a moment to update your and your Girl Scout's information.

1. What is Early Bird Renewal? toggle arrow

Early Bird Renewal is the time for your family or Girl Scout troop to get a head start on the 2026-2027 Girl Scout year by renewing your memberships and earning incentives. Early Bird Renewal runs from April 1 to June 30, 2026.

No Chasing Down Registrations This Fall

We all know how busy fall gets with a new school year, fall sports, and getting back into the swing of things. Why not make it easier on yourself and have your Girl Scout troop ready to go?

TBH—It’s Just Easier

Renewing memberships of girls and adults in your troop is simpler if you do it before the current Girl Scout membership year ends on September 30, 2026. Can it be done after the new year starts? Of course! But why not save yourself some time and energy.

Early Access to the Volunteer Toolkit (VTK)

The Volunteer Toolkit (VTK) is a handy online resource that helps with meeting planning, badge requirements, and organizing your troop year. Troop Co-Leaders who renew during Early Bird may begin planning their next Girl Scout year in the VTK starting July 1, 2026.

NOTE: Troop Co-Leaders who do not renew their membership may only begin using the VTK after they renew for the 2026-2027 Girl Scout membership year.

Product Program Proceeds Can Cover the Cost

When you use funds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program to renew the girls in your troop, they see the direct result of their hard work. It is a great way for girls to experience the pride that comes with earning and investing in their own adventures. Then keep the momentum going with the Fall Product Program. It is a simple way to start the year strong and build funds for even more troop experiences.

Did you know that troops who participate in the Fall Product Program and sell at least $2,000 earn a higher per-package profit during the next Girl Scout Cookie Program? The Fall Product Program not only boosts troop revenue through those sales, it also helps your troop earn more from cookies later in the year.

Girl Scout Sling Bag

AVAILABLE APRIL 1–2 ONLY! Girls who register/renew their Girl Scout membership via MY GS between 12:00 a.m. (CST) on April 1, 2026, and 11:59 p.m. (CST) on April 2, 2026, will receive an exclusive Girl Scout Sling Bag.

Beginning August 1, sling bags may be picked up by a troop co-leader or parent/caregiver at your local Girl Scout service center, or you may arrange for pick-up during a future council-sponsored program. Please contact your local Troop Support Specialist to schedule a pick-up. Sling bags will not be mailed.

NOTE: These Sling Bags will not be made available to troop co-leaders/adults.

$5 Spirit of Nebraska Program Credit

AVAILABLE APRIL 1–8 ONLY! Girls who register/renew their Girl Scout membership via MY GS between 12:00 a.m. (CST) on April 1, 2026, and 11:59 p.m. (CST) on April 8, 2026, will receive a $5 Spirit of Nebraska Program Credit! A core principle of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) is empowering girls through girl-led activites! A Program Credit will allow girls to choose their own Girl Scout path!

A Spirit of Nebraska Program Credit redemption code will be distributed via email in August. Program Credits may be combined with Cookie Dough, Nut Bucks, Travel Bucks, additional Program Credits, and all other eligible forms of payment towards council-sponsored programs. Program Credits may be redeemed online.

Early Bird Patch

AVAILABLE APRIL 1 – JUNE 30 ONLY! Girls who register/renew their Girl Scout membership via MY GS between 12:00 a.m. (CST) on April 1, 2026, and 11:59 p.m. (CST) on June 30, 2026, will receive a Early Bird patch featuring the Western Meadowlark.

Beginning August 1, patches may be picked up by a troop co-leader or parent/caregiver at your local Girl Scout service center, or you may arrange for pick-up during a future council-sponsored program. Please contact your local Troop Support Specialist to schedule a pick-up. Patches will not be mailed.

$100 Girl Scout Shop Gift Card Raffle

AVAILABLE APRIL 1 ONLY! Troop co-leaders who renew the memberships of ALL girl members via MY GS between 12:00 a.m. (CST) and 11:59 p.m. (CST) on April 1, 2026, will be entered to win a $100 Girl Scout Shop Gift Card. Two troop co-leaders will win.

The winners will be announced on Facebook and Instagram in April. A digital Girl Scout Shop Gift Card code will be distributed via email to the winners in August. Girl Scout Shop Gift Cards may be redeemed towards Spirit of Nebraska Girl Scout Shop purchases, Girl Scout memberships, or any council-sponsored program fees in person, by phone, by email, or by mail. Girl Scout Shop Gift Cards may not be redeemed online or at Camp Trading Posts.

Girl Scout Adventure Bag

AVAILABLE APRIL 1–2 ONLY! Troops who renew the memberships of MOST girl members via MY GS between 12:00 a.m. (CST) on April 1, 2026 and 11:59 p.m. (CST) on April 2, 2026, will receive a Girl Scout Adventure Bag. Fill your new Adventure Bag with Girl Scout meeting or field trip necessities! Use the handy front pocket to hold a picnic blanket, your campfire sit-upon, a yoga mat, or any other cylindrical item you wish to tote.

Beginning August 1, Adventure Bags may be picked up at your local Girl Scout service center, or you may arrange for pick-up during a future council-sponsored program. Please contact your local Troop Support Specialist to schedule a pick-up. Adventure Bags will not be mailed.

100-Year Anniversary Party-in-a-Box Raffle

AVAILABLE APRIL 1 – JUNE 30 ONLY! Troops who renew the memberships of ALL girl members via MY GS between 12:00 a.m. (CST) on April 1, 2026, and 11:59 p.m. (CST) on June 30, 2026, will be entered to win a Spirit of Nebraska 100-Year Anniversary Party-in-a-Box (approximate value $300). Five troops will win.

The winners will be announced on Facebook and Instagram in July.

*Co-leaders must have an active background screen to qualify. Troops must have at least two registered (non-related) co-leaders, at least two girl members, and be in compliance with all Spirit of Nebraska guidelines/rules to qualify.

6. Do I have to be a current member to register during Early Bird Renewal? toggle arrow

No—anyone can register for the 2026–2027 Girl Scout year starting April 1, 2026.

7. Who can renew a girl’s membership? toggle arrow

Parents/caregivers may register and/or renew Girl Scout memberships for anyone in their household. Co-Leaders may renew past and current troop members.

8. Who pays for a girl’s membership? toggle arrow

If a girl participated in the most recent Girl Scout Cookie Program or Fall Product Program, the troop may cover membership fees using Product Program proceeds—check with your troop co-leader! Financial Aid is also available for those who qualify.

9. How much are membership fees for 2026-2027? toggle arrow

Membership fees for the 2026-2027 year are $65 for girls and $30 for adults. All membership fees are sent to our national organization, Girl Scouts of the USA. None of the fees stay with our local council. Renew girls on April 1 to take advantage of the one-day membership discount!

10. I need to apply for Financial Aid—do I still qualify for Early Bird incentives? toggle arrow

Yes! To qualify for Early Bird incentives, you must renew your membership online AND submit the required Financial Aid Application by these deadlines:

For the Sling Bag and/or Adventure Bag:
- Renew your membership by 11:59 p.m. on April 2, 2026
- Submit your Financial Aid Application by April 7, 2026
For the Program Credit:
- Renew your membership by 11:59 p.m. on April 8, 2026
- Submit your Financial Aid Application by April 13, 2026
For the Early Bird Patch and/or Party-in-a-Box Entry
- Renew your membership by 11:59 p.m. on June 30, 2026
- Submit your Financial Aid Application by July 5, 2026

11. What happened to the Earliest Bird Patch Program incentive? toggle arrow

The Earliest Bird Patch Program was retired to offer girls greater flexibility and the freedom to choose their own Girl Scouting experiences.

12. Why is this year's Early Bird mascot the Western Meadowlark? toggle arrow

In honor of Spirit of Nebraska's 100-Year Anniversary, we selected the Nebraska state bird as this year's Early Bird mascot!

Nebraska officially designated the Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta) as its state bird on March 22, 1929, after it won a popular vote conducted by the Nebraska Ornithologists' Union. The bird was a natural choice due to its presence across the state's vast prairies and its distinct, flute-like song that greeted early pioneers. Today, it remains a cherished symbol of the Great Plains, sharing the "state bird" title with five other states.
