Wow! What an incredible impact Girl Scouts make when they work together. We asked you to beautify outdoor spaces by picking up trash on World Cleanup Day. You blew us away with your response.
This year, over 2,800 Girl Scouts, friends, staff, and family members from 18 states, Germany, and Taiwan pledged to clean up litter and make the world a better place. Together, we collected over 500 bags of trash! We’re so proud of the Girl Scouts who united to clean up parks, schools, neighborhoods, river fronts, beaches, forests, lakes, trails, roads, and ditches!
Those who participated received something in return, as we learned from the impact statements. Check out what a few of our participants shared with us:
"It helped our community by setting an example and paving the way for providing a cleaner city for its citizens." - Troop 48914, Gretna, NE
"At first when we got to the local park, it seemed to be very clean. However, after looking carefully, we realized that the trash had been shoved into the bushes and other shrubbery, where it wasn’t easily noticed. We started looking in these hard-to-reach places and realized there was a lot of hidden trash to be collected." - Troops 39510 and 39509, Taipei, Taiwan
"They learned not to litter! But also, that if you work together, you can accomplish big things." - Troop 48215, Papillion, NE
"We learned that all of our choices have consequences, and we can make a difference, no matter how big or how small." - Troop 5056, Delaware, OH
"Our girls were amazed at what they found. Their initial thoughts were that litter was only pieces of paper. They found socks, a shoestring, and lots of unknown pieces of plastic." - Troop 08956, Kearney, NE
"They made the beach safer for families and wildlife while learning more about leave no trace." - Troop 296, Hendersonville, TN
"It's work to pick up trash, but it's worth it to keep America looking great." - Kelsee, Individual Girl Member, Kenesaw, NE
"The girls found a lot of plastic in seaweed, which showed them how much trash is in our ocean. Many people at the state park beach thanked the girls for cleaning up. Hopefully it showed the community that even young kids can make a difference." - Troop 10759, Weston, FL
Your efforts made a huge difference in keeping our communities clean and beautiful. Let’s keep the momentum going by continuing to care for our shared spaces all year long. And get ready - next year’s World Cleanup Day will be even bigger and better!
