Friendship is one of the greatest gifts Girl Scouts has to offer. On International Day of Friendship, we're celebrating Laura and Fiona, whose connection proves that some of the best friendships begin in unexpected ways.
When they were paired together through Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska's Mentorship Program, they expected to learn from one another during a few days at camp. What they didn't expect was a friendship that would last long after the program ended.
Over the past year, Laura and Fiona have continued to meet for coffee, explore local events together, and cheer each other on through life's milestones—even now as Fiona begins her college journey. Along the way, they've discovered that while they're in different stages of life, they share many of the same values, dreams, and perspectives.
The impact has extended beyond just the two of them. Laura found a supportive community among the other mentors, while Fiona gained trusted women she could turn to for encouragement and advice.
"You might feel alone, especially as a teenager, but Miss Laura has been through it. The other mentors have been through it, and they all have different advice to give you." – Fiona
That's the power of Girl Scouts. Friendships can begin in the most unexpected places, and sometimes, they become the relationships that guide, encourage, and stay with us for years to come
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
