Some Girl Scout memories stay with you for a lifetime, and sometimes, you get the chance to make new ones with the next generation.
For Shannon, Girl Scouts meant adventure from the very beginning. As a girl in Troop 492, she traveled with her troop to the Black Hills and Badlands and even took a Caribbean cruise, all while working toward her Gold Award. But some of her favorite memories were made closer to home at Camp Catron, where she learned to cook over a campfire, sang camp songs, searched for animal tracks, and conquered her fear of heights on the high ropes course.
Camp Catron was special to Shannon’s mother, too. She spent years attending trainings and events there while working for the Girl Scout Council, making the camp part of their family’s Girl Scout story.
Now, Shannon is creating those same kinds of memories with her own daughter’s troop.
As a co-leader of Troop 28274, she has returned to Camp Catron to watch a new generation of Girl Scouts experience the same sense of adventure and independence. From first nights away from home to weekends spent hiking, tackling the high ropes course, making s’mores, and enjoying time unplugged, the girls are building stories of their own.
For Shannon, Girl Scouts has always been about more than the places she went or the things she accomplished. It’s about the experiences that stay with you and the joy of watching the next generation discover them for themselves.
“Now as a co-leader of my daughter’s own Girl Scout troop, I have had the pleasure of returning to Camp Catron. It has been wonderful to see the next generation of girls learn and grow.”
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
