Sometimes, the moments that shape us don't feel extraordinary at the time.
Growing up on a farm in a small town in South Dakota, Jessica looked forward to every Girl Scout meeting. Each one brought something new—earning a badge, learning a skill, creating a craft, or trying something she'd never done before. Girl Scouts opened her world beyond everyday life and gave her the confidence to step outside her comfort zone.
Then there was Girl Scout Cookie season.
A self-proclaimed lover of sports and a little friendly competition, Jessica turned selling Girl Scout Cookies into her own personal championship. Every goal she set taught her something new about perseverance, communication, and believing in what she could accomplish; skills that continue to serve her today.
Some of her favorite memories happened around a campfire, laughing with friends, making s'mores, and discovering the independence that comes from spending time outdoors. Those experiences weren't just fun; they helped build confidence, friendships, and memories that have stayed with her for decades.
Years later, Jessica had the joy of watching her own daughter experience Girl Scouts. Seeing her earn one of Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska's highest honors wasn't just a proud moment, it was a reminder that the lessons she learned as a girl were now shaping the next generation.
"It's amazing how something you look forward to each week as a little girl can leave an impact that lasts a lifetime."
That's the power of Girl Scouts. The badges, campfires, cookie sales, and friendships may seem like small moments at the time, but together they build the confidence, courage, and character that stay with girls long after childhood.
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
