Carey’s Girl Scout story began with a platform tent at Camp Maha.
As a Girl Scout, she discovered a love for camping and the outdoors; one that would eventually shape both her career and the work she does today.
While in college, Carey became the Art Director at Camp Wa-Shawtee and later Camp Maha before serving as the seasonal Camp Director at Camp Maha. Seven summers at camp became some of the best years of her life, filled with friendships, adventure, time outdoors, and the opportunity to work alongside incredible girls.
But her Girl Scout journey didn’t end when she left camp.
Carey later became a co-leader for both of her daughters’ troops, taking girls camping, on field trips, and on adventures of their own. Through volunteering, she found herself once again creating the kinds of experiences that had meant so much to her.
Eventually, a former camp friend sent Carey a simple email:
“Your dream job is open. Come work at Girl Scouts!”
Today, Carey serves as the Outdoor Experience Manager for Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska, helping girls build confidence through outdoor experiences at camps across the state.
The little girl who once discovered the magic of Camp Maha now has the incredible opportunity to help create that magic for the next generation.
And perhaps that’s one of the most beautiful things about Girl Scouts: the experiences that shape us can become the experiences we give to others.
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
