Heidi grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, in a Girl Scout family. Her mother was a lifetime Girl Scout and sometimes served as a leader for Heidi and her sisters as they moved through Brownies, Juniors, and Cadettes.
Then, in the summer of 1972, Girl Scouts gave 14-year-old Heidi an opportunity she never could have imagined. She and her sister, Erin, were selected to travel to Our Cabana in Cuernavaca, Mexico, on a sponsored trip with Lincoln Girl Scouts.
For Heidi, the adventure began before they even arrived. It was her first time on an airplane! The sisters explored Mexico City and Taxco before making their way to Our Cabana, one of Girl Scouts' international World Centres. For a young Girl Scout from Lincoln, it was an incredible opportunity to experience a new country, meet new people, and see a world beyond Nebraska.
More than 50 years later, that trip remains a cherished memory for Heidi.
Girl Scouts opens a door to an experience you never expected. And sometimes, that experience becomes a story you carry with you for the rest of your life.
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
