For Senator Ashlei Spivey, her Girl Scout story is rooted in one of the most important relationships in her life: the one she shares with her mom.
Growing up in Omaha, Ashlei joined Girl Scouts in elementary school, where her mom served as her troop leader. Girl Scouts gave them opportunities to spend time together, make memories and experience meaningful adventures side by side.
While Ashlei's Girl Scout journey didn't continue through her later years, the memories she made with her mom have stayed with her.
“My mom is forever my best friend,” Ashlei shares. “I am grateful for the positive experiences that Girl Scouts gave us together.”
Today, as a Nebraska State Senator representing District 13, Ashlei continues to serve her community. And while her Girl Scout journey may have taken a different path, she knows the impact of those early experiences is part of a much bigger story.
Over the past 100 years, generations of Nebraska girls have found friendship, confidence, belonging and opportunities through Girl Scouts—and each of those experiences becomes part of the lasting legacy of this movement.
We're grateful to Senator Spivey for sharing her story and reminding us that sometimes, the most meaningful part of Girl Scouts is simply having the chance to make memories with someone you love.
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
