Sometimes, one Girl Scout field trip can change the course of a life.
For Sherry, that moment came when she was 12 years old. As a Girl Scout, she had the opportunity to visit businesses around Omaha. One visit took her to the studios of KOIL near 90th & Dodge.
Until that day, Sherry had imagined becoming a nurse or even a CIA agent. But when she saw a disc jockey sitting at the sound board and speaking into the microphone, something clicked.
Radio filled her with joy.
“I never thought of doing anything else from that point on.”
That Girl Scout field trip sparked a career that would take Sherry around the world. Today, she has returned to where it all began, serving as General Manager of KVNO, Omaha’s classical radio station.
It’s a beautiful reminder of what can happen when girls are given the opportunity to explore, ask questions and experience something new. Sometimes, you never know which experience will reveal a passion that stays with you for the rest of your life.
For Sherry, it happened behind a radio microphone—and it all started with Girl Scouts.
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
