For 20 years, artVenture brought Girl Scouts and artists from across Nebraska together to create something truly special.
Girls of all ages had the opportunity to work alongside professional artists, explore new mediums, experiment with creativity, and turn their ideas into one-of-a-kind works of art. Those pieces were then showcased and sold at the annual artVenture event, creating a beloved tradition that celebrated both creativity and community.
One of the artists who helped make that magic happen was Catherwine Witt.
For more than a decade, Catherwine shared her talents as a teaching artist, working with Girl Scouts on projects ranging from pottery to mosaics. And while she helped girls create beautiful pieces of art, she remembers something even more meaningful: the moment a girl would light up with an idea.
“Smiles Fun Laughter
Creativity Nature
Clay Mosaic Kindness”
That’s Catherwine’s haiku, created from the words she says capture her artVenture experience.
“ArtVenture was one of the most enriching, rewarding experiences of my teaching artist life!” she shared. “My favorite memories are the ones where something magical happened when creating with clay or mosaic. A girl would light up and look around to see others having so many ideas to share!”
ArtVenture may no longer be part of our programming, but its impact is part of our history—and so are the artists, Girl Scouts, families, and Girl Scout staff who made it so special.
Catherwine, thank you for sharing your creativity, your talent, and your time with generations of Nebraska Girl Scouts. And thank you for helping girls discover that their ideas are worth bringing to life.
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
