From a Brownie in Falls City to a Girl Scout leader watching her own daughter prepare for Gold, Stephanie Wendtlandt’s Girl Scout journey has come full circle.
Stephanie started Girl Scouts as a Brownie and stayed through her senior year of high school. Along the way, she traveled around Nebraska, led programs for younger Girl Scouts at Stanton’s Lake, spent unforgettable weeks at Camp Catron (including in those legendary heavy canvas tents!), and earned both her Silver and Gold Awards.
But what she gained went far beyond badges and awards.
Girl Scouts helped Stephanie build confidence, strengthen her people skills, and learn how to set goals and work toward them—skills she continues to use today as a small business owner.
Now, Stephanie has the honor of being a Girl Scout leader to her own daughter, Sophia.
She’s watched Sophia grow from a Daisy into a Senior Girl Scout, earn her Silver Award, and begin preparing for her Gold Award. Along the way, they’ve created Girl Scout memories of their own, including traveling to Europe together.
There’s something pretty special about watching your child experience the same organization that helped shape you.
The traditions Stephanie learned as a girl are now being passed down to Sophia; not simply as traditions, but as opportunities to build confidence, set big goals, explore the world, and discover what she’s capable of.
From one generation to the next, the Girl Scout journey continues.
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
