This Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating the many languages, cultures, and experiences that make our Girl Scout community stronger.
For Troop 48453, being bilingual isn’t just something the girls share; it’s a superpower.
The troop includes girls who speak both Spanish and English, whether they attend dual-language schools or come from bilingual families. During Girl Scout Cookie season, they embrace that strength by choosing booth locations where they can connect with Spanish-speaking customers and creating online sales videos in both languages.
Their leader, Lori, has helped the girls understand that speaking someone else’s language can be a powerful way to make people feel comfortable, welcomed, and accepted.
At a cookie booth, that might sound as simple as:
“¿Quién quiere galletas?”
But behind those words is something much bigger. These girls are learning that their language, culture, and experiences are valuable and that they can use those strengths to build connections with others.
That’s the beauty of Girl Scouts: girls don’t have to leave parts of themselves at the door. They can bring their whole selves, discover the strengths that make them unique, and use them to make their communities more welcoming for everyone.
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
