We remember the life and legacy of Coleen Seng, a lifelong supporter of Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska and devoted public servant, who passed away December 1, 2025.
Coleen's connection to Girl Scouts began long before her years of public service. After graduating from Nebraska Wesleyan University, she worked for Girl Scouts in Michigan before returning to Lincoln, where she continued her involvement with the organization.
Her commitment to serving others became a defining part of her life. Coleen spent 16 years on the Lincoln City Council and served as Lincoln's 50th mayor from 2003 to 2007. But for Coleen, leadership wasn't simply about holding office. She believed deeply in making time for people, listening to her community, and encouraging others, especially young people, to find their own place in public service.
Those who knew her remember someone who made people feel that they belonged. She took time to mentor young people, encourage fellow public servants, and show up for her community.
Her family chose Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska as one of the organizations to receive memorial gifts in her honor — a fitting continuation of a lifelong connection.
Coleen's legacy reminds us that a life of service is built one person, one community, and one act of encouragement at a time.
We are honored to remember her as part of our 100 Stories.
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
