Sometimes, you don't realize you're part of a legacy until you see a piece of your own Girl Scout journey being worn by the next generation.
For Alex, her Girl Scout story began with field trips to the mall, sleepovers at the Omaha Children's Museum, and a Brownie-to-Junior bridging ceremony in 1999.
Today, her adventures look a little different. She loves exploring Girl Scout camps and state parks and connecting with community groups in the Grand Island area to help her community thrive.
During this year's Harvest of Harmony Parade, Alex got a pretty special reminder of just how full circle that journey has become. As Girl Scouts celebrated 100 years, girls, families, friends and Girl Scout alumni came together to celebrate in the parade. About 7–8 Girl Scout alumnae joined in, and the community turned out to cheer them on.
Then came the moment that nearly brought Alex to tears: a Girl Scout wore Alex's old Junior vest in the parade.
One vest. Two Girl Scouts. More than 25 years between them.
That's the beauty of Girl Scouts. The experiences change. The adventures change. The girls grow up and become the people creating those experiences for someone else. But the legacy keeps moving forward.
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
