When Rachel learned there wasn't a Girl Scout troop at her daughter's school, she knew what she had to do: start one!
Girl Scouts had given Rachel so many cherished memories of friendship, sisterhood, and adventure growing up. She wanted her daughter to experience that same magic, too.
Two and a half years later, her troop brings together girls from several different schools, giving them opportunities to build friendships beyond their usual circles and discover what makes each of them shine.
Their adventures have included cave tours, farm visits, combine rides, ice skating, rock climbing, fishing, horseback riding, and even a Husker football game. They've volunteered with local organizations, explored their community, and welcomed some very unexpected guests to a troop meeting: an alpaca and goats who arrived in the hatch of a car!
But Rachel's favorite moments aren't necessarily the biggest adventures. They're the moments when a girl feels nervous about trying something new, and another Girl Scout steps in to encourage her. That little bit of support helps her find the courage to give it a try.
That's where the sisterhood begins.
Rachel loves getting to know each girl and her family and hopes the girls will look back on their time together with the same joy she feels today.
She started a troop so her daughter could experience the Girl Scouts she remembered. Along the way, she's helped create a community where girls with different interests, personalities, and strengths can learn from one another, cheer each other on, and make memories of their own.
Sometimes, the greatest adventure isn't just what girls get to do. It's who they get to become—and the friends beside them along the way.
100 years. Countless stories. One lasting legacy.
