We are proud to announce that Alyssa has been named Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska’s Employee of the Quarter! Alyssa’s hard work, positive disposition, dedication, and behind-the-scenes expertise have made a significant impact on our Council. We’re excited to highlight her contributions!
Alyssa has been with the Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska for four years as of September. Her role encompasses many essential financial functions including overseeing bank accounts, processing Financial Aid and Staff Discounts, maintaining troop account Records, managing Product Program ACHs, and so much more. Additionally, Alyssa ensures that the Council’s financial processes run smoothly through monthly and yearly reconciliations.
“I do a lot of things,” Alyssa explains. “The big items I focus on are financial-related tasks, but I also deal with research issues and reconciling. Most of my work is on the back end, which not a lot of people see.”
One of Alyssa’s most significant accomplishments was overseeing the switch to a new accounting system. This challenge pushed her out of her comfort zone, and she realized that even though she didn’t enjoy being the center of attention, she was more than capable of stepping up when needed.
“It was hard learning while trying to teach others at the same time,” Alyssa says, “but I felt so accomplished afterward. It was a good reminder that even when something is challenging, it’s possible to succeed.”
For Alyssa, the strong sense of camaraderie within her team is what keeps her motivated every day. “I work with an amazing team. Even when I make mistakes, they always have my back. It’s nice to know that I can lean on them when I need support, and vice versa. I truly couldn’t ask for a better group.”
Alyssa also credits the broader connections she’s made within the Council for keeping her inspired. “Everyone is so helpful and nice. I’ve made some amazing connections outside of my team as well.”
Alyssa’s advice for anyone starting their career in nonprofit or youth-serving organizations is simple: embrace opportunities as they come.
“Always jump at an opportunity when it’s presented. It’s scary, but it can be the best thing to happen to you. Even if it doesn’t work out, it’s better than always wondering if you missed out on something amazing.”
Congratulations, Alyssa! We are incredibly lucky to have her on our team and can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!
