On Monday, June 23, 2025, an intimate and heartfelt ribbon cutting was held at Camp Catron to celebrate a truly meaningful upgrade to our campgrounds at the Sky Camp Pavilion kitchen. This space was made possible through generous support given in honor of Fride Philpot, a beloved Girl Scout volunteer, leader, friend, wife, and mother.
Fride’s legacy of service to Girl Scouts spans decades. Her daughter, Rose Joshi, with her partner, Bhavesh, traveled from Chicago to be part of the celebration. As Rose stood beside fellow Girl Scout campers at the camp she once attended as a young girl, she shared, “her mother left a legacy like a well-marked trail.” The occasion served as a powerful reminder that when one person shares their time, energy, and heart, generations of girls benefit.
The meal served after the ceremony was prepared by our Sky’s the Limit campers, who got to use the very kitchen remodeled in honor of Fride. As they grilled and plated dishes, they weren’t just learning about outdoor cooking, they were becoming part of the legacy Fride helped create.
Girl Scout Spirit of Nebraska CEO, Sarah Waldman, shared how this kitchen is already making an impact. “This isn’t just a kitchen, it’s a classroom, a community table, and a place where leadership is sparked,” Sarah said. “This is the generational impact of Girl Scouts. Every meal cooked here connects back to the love and labor of a woman who made Camp Catron better with every season.”
Sarah also shared a letter written by longtime Girl Scout and dear friend Kay French, offering a touching reflection on Fride’s profound contributions to Girl Scouting in Nebraska.
Fride Philpot was a charter member of Order of the Silver Trefoil, serving as president, secretary, and most importantly, a constant source of leadership and inspiration. She was instrumental in shaping Camp Catron, spearheading the Ten Oaks Cabin project, planting gardens, and organizing the legendary “Tents Up” and “Tents Down” workdays. Rain or shine, Fride was there organizing, planting, feeding volunteers, and building community. Her dedication lives on in every tree planted, every tent raised, and now, in every meal made in the Sky Camp Pavilion kitchen.

Fride was the kind of Girl Scout volunteer who inspired others to “make the world a better place,” not just in theory, but through hard work, warm meals, and steadfast presence. We are proud to carry her torch.
To our volunteers, members, and generous supporters: thank you. It is your gifts of time, talent, and treasure that keep our mission thriving. If you’d like to honor a legacy, invest in our camps, or simply support the next generation of changemakers, we welcome you to join us.
Because when one woman leads with heart, generations of girls rise.
