Managing troop finances is an important part of creating a successful Girl Scout experience. Whether your troop is saving for a big adventure, planning activities, or simply covering the cost of badges and supplies, keeping accurate financial records helps ensure girls have the opportunity to make decisions and lead their Girl Scout experience.
Each year, troops and service units with checking accounts are required to complete a Troop Finance Report (TFR). While completing this report may feel like one more thing on your summer to-do list, it is an important tool that helps keep troop finances organized, accurate, and on track.
What is a Troop Finance Report?
A Troop Finance Report is a reconciliation of your troop’s financial activity over the past year. It compares your troop’s records with your bank account activity to make sure everything matches and is accounted for.
The report helps Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska:
This process is not about scrutinizing how troops spend money. It is about making sure funds are being used to support girls, creating girl-led experiences, and providing an extra check that troop finances are accurate.
Completing a TFR has helped volunteers catch accidental errors, such as a personal purchase made with the wrong card or unfamiliar transactions that needed attention. Reviewing your troop finances regularly helps protect your troop and its members.
Who Needs to Complete a Troop Finance Report?
All Girl Scout troops and service units that maintained a checking account at any time during the 12-month period ending June 30 must complete a Troop Finance Report.
Individual Girl Members (IGMs) do not complete a Troop Finance Report, as they do not maintain troop checking accounts.
The report must be completed by troop leaders and reviewed by both registered, background-screened volunteers listed on the account. Both leaders should review the information and confirm that it is accurate.
If your troop is disbanding, you still need to complete a Troop Finance Report if your troop had an active account during the past year. Reach out to your Troop Support Specialist for guidance.
When is the Troop Finance Report Due?
Troop Finance Reports are due by June 30 each year.
You will also need to include your most recent bank statement (the statement closest to June 30).
If you experience technical issues or an unexpected situation that prevents you from submitting your report by the deadline, please contact your Troop Support Specialist and let them know when you expect to complete it.
How Do I Complete a Troop Finance Report?
The best way to make completing your TFR easier is to keep your troop finances updated throughout the year.
Beginning July 1 (or after your final June balance is recorded):
Using the spreadsheet throughout the year can save time and make the reporting process much smoother. It also helps ensure your troop’s records match your bank statements and makes it easier to complete the online form when submission time arrives.
Ways to Submit Your Troop Finance Report

Common Questions
Do both troop leaders need to sign the report?
Both registered, background-screened adults should review the troop finances before submission. For online submissions, follow the instructions provided on the form.
Do Troop Support Specialists need to sign the report?
No. Troop Support Specialists do not need to sign the report. Their contact information may be entered where requested.
What if my troop has no changes to report?
A Troop Finance Report is still required if your troop had an account during the reporting period.
What if my troop’s bank account information has changed?
Volunteers are responsible for making sure troop account information stays current. If account signers, addresses, or other account details change, update your bank information and submit an updated Bank Account Information Form.
