One day. One planet. One goal. And wow, did Girl Scouts deliver!
This year, 4,889 Girl Scouts, families, and friends pledged to take part in World Cleanup Day, stretching across 38 states and 3 countries. That’s more pledges than last year and shows the true power of Girl Scouts when we come together for a shared mission.
From parks and lakes to neighborhoods and trails, you rolled up your sleeves, picked up trash, and proved that small actions add up to BIG change. Every single pledge represented a step toward a cleaner, healthier planet.
Relive the day! Check out photos from World Cleanup Day in our Flickr album.
Enjoy a few testimonials from participants all over the world that reflect on their experience and what they learned. Here’s to making next year’s impact even greater!
“In addition to picking up trash, we also helped plant a tree in the outdoor classroom, along with some chrysanthemums out front. The project just gives the girls pride in their school and the earth, in general.” - Jen, Lincoln, NE
“They learned that there was a big problem with trash in this park and felt like they were able to make an impact on both litter and abandoned items. Community members walking by commented on how refreshing it was to see us out there. We could see the improvements made by even just our small group. Our girls felt pride in that.” - Laura, Sultan, WA
“Even though a park may look clean, there can still be a lot of trash hidden in corners and under bushes. The trash they found was left carelessly, so this event will lead to greater consciousness of taking care of their own trash.” - Irene, Taipei, Taiwan
“They learned how to safely pick up trash. They learned how important it is to care for your own community. They learned that if 3,000 girls fill even one bag of trash each, it’s a huge impact on their community.” - Sara, Bloomington, IN
“The girls learned the importance of recycling. We took a bag of cans, bottles, and cardboard to our local recycling center. They also learned the power of teamwork; by joining forces, they were able to cover much more ground than they would have individually.” - Shaila, Benkelman, NE
Thank you for making this global movement such a success. Your commitment and teamwork remind us that the future of our planet is in good hands. Here’s to making next year’s impact even greater!
