There’s nothing quite like Girl Scout camp. The moment a girl steps out of the car and onto the trail, something big starts to happen. She begins discovering new strengths, new friends, and new ways to shine. Whether she’s trying archery for the first time, learning to canter on horseback, or laughing with new friends around a campfire, camp is where confidence grows and memories last a lifetime.
It’s hard to believe, but summer camp planning is already here! As you explore options for this coming summer, our staff is diligently working behind the scenes to ensure every camper feels supported and safe every step of the way.
Every camp session is designed to help girls try new things and feel proud of what they accomplish. Depending on the location and program, campers can look forward to things like:
These aren’t just activities, they’re opportunities for girls to take healthy risks, celebrate successes, and practice independence in a supportive setting.
Our counselors are Girl Scout role models through and through. They lift girls up, encourage them to try new things, and help them navigate any first-day jitters. Before campers arrive, our staff complete extensive training on youth development, community building, and creating welcoming spaces for every girl.
And yes, they’re also trained on emergency procedures and weather preparedness, so while the fun flows naturally, trained leaders are always aware and close by.
Girl Scout camps are intentionally designed spaces where girls can unplug, breathe fresh air, and connect with each other. The overnight camper spaces become little communities where girls learn to make decisions together, help one another, and celebrate each other's achievements.
Whether she’s at Camp Cosmo in Grand Island, Camp Catron in Nebraska City, Camp Maha in Papillion, Lakeview Cabin in North Platte, Hidden Oaks Cabin in Valentine, or Camp Crossed Arrows in Nickerson, she’ll experience the same thing: a place built just for girls to explore the outdoors and discover what they’re capable of.
Parents don’t usually see the quiet planning that happens long before summer but it’s there, guiding everything we do.
We follow American Camp Association (ACA) standards and GSUSA safety protocols, which means our camps have clear emergency plans, trained staff, first-aid and CPR-certified counselors, weather-alert systems, radios, and partnerships with local safety experts. Some camps have community landlines or on-site rangers, and all have procedures that help us respond quickly if Nebraska’s weather changes.
We keep things simple for girls, they get to fully enjoy the magic of camp. The grownups handle everything else.
At the end of the week, your Girl Scout will come home with new songs to teach you and confidence that only comes from discovering her own strength. She’ll be braver. She’ll be bolder. And you’ll know she spent the week in a place created with intention, joy, and care.
